The chorus came first. I thought it was funny...in that country song kind of way. Over the top twist of words. Listen to some country radio and you'll hear what I mean.

Then, from a kind-of jokey start, the tune got Dark.
I relate personal snippets from hiding out in my dad's barn. I had married fairly young- 23, and it didn't work out...I gave up booze (for years), she did not, and it killed her. I've lost a few friends from alcohol poisoning.
My sweet sweet mom died from cancer later that year, and I needed a time out to reset my future. I hid out in my dad's barn - tin foiled the windows, etc.....anyways, this song is about that bottom of my life.

Do you enjoy a song like this. No, but if someone was going through these type of tribulations, it helps to have a musical companion. I was there.
