about

Way back when, I was on the lovely German label, Glitterhouse Records. They had released all the Slow Band albums.
I had the idea to bring a Western Massachusett's local favorite band, The Lonesome Brothers, to Glitterhouse. I also thought European audiences needed to experience some of the Sweet Original American Alt Country Riffs written by two unbelievable Songwriters, Jim Armenti and Ray Mason.
Ray is all about his old Silvertone guitar, many classic Garage pop solo albums, and a solid bass sound with ancient strings. (www.raymason.com).

Jim's guitar playing just flows out like water. It's a part of his body at this point, and it's wonderful to hear. He also has a herd of classic solo releases. (jimarmenti.net)

So I wrote some new tunes, chose some LB favorites from their many LPs, fleshed out a few Stephen Mathewson numbers the Slow Band never recorded, and headed into the studio with BEIGE mate, Tom Mahnken. Luckily, Cheri Knight of the Blood Oranges showed up and sang lovely harmonies. That could be key to the whole thing working. I think there were a couple key things, but if you listen for Cheri, it is awfully swell.

I think the record is magically sparse, but not empty. I lot of it is a simple bassline, a crossstick snare, guitar notes, and a bunch of harmonies.
On Big Shakedown we almost stop it's so minimal.
I like the way Jim plays violin, which is not exact. It is playing by feel a lot. I like that. The piano too, a little sloppy. I like that. A fraction out of tume maybe? I will say it again what makes this record work is the space in between. If you are interested in recording music, listen for that. Full minimal.

Sadly, Glitterhouse would not release it, claiming it was "too country" for Europeans.

So here it is, just for you.
