NOT A PARTY ALBUM. A morbid slice of a morbid time. 4 out of 5 stars:

"Mood music for the new age.

Interesting stuff. More a song suite than a series of stand alone songs. I suggest the listener just put it on in the background and let music seep in. It's not like the Pajama Slave Dancers (his earlier punk band), more like Morphine at its best". M. S. Jendrysik

Underwhelmed is the third of 4 Slow Band albums, if you include Mangled, which included the Slow Band, but they had not yet been formed:

Declared an "odd" album by Glitterhouse at the time, it contains ebo solos, horn sections, a mellotron, wah wah guitar freakouts (Life is Too Long),a "guest" track by Heather Pighetti (Nothing Left to Give), Weirdo double organ rock with Mike Flood (Monument), A Las Vegas Jason Lowenstein cover about Mike Flood (Riding With the Flood), and some down and out piano/vocal work from Steve (A Friend - though he claims he practiced on a piano tuned half a step down from the studio one). This may be the most bummed out album of this bummed out span for the Slow Band.

Toured on fairly heavily, it sold more than Reject Me ...First, but got less critical acclaim. Go figure.
